Nadia Sawalha has admitted her husband Mark would edit out spots on the faces of her daughters in family photos.
During Thursday’s episode of Loose Women, host Nadia led the panel in a discussion about Kim Kardashian being called out on social media for editing a photo of her seven-year-old daughter North West.
While Nadia said she had asked her daughters about it and they were outraged, she also confessed that her partner would remove spots from their children’s faces while touching up family photos.
It came as she discussed using the app FaceTune – that lets users edit and change their face – and admitted that after trying it out herself she realises how ‘addictive it can be’.
‘With a little practice you could get your face to exactly how you want to be,’ she said. ‘It’s this warped thinking.’
Confessing to the slight touch up of her family photos, Nadia said: ‘Years ago, one of our girls did really suffer from spots, so sometimes Mark would edit out the spots on family photos and I thought it was fine.
‘But now I’m thinking, is that kind of a gateway drug, you could start off doing drugs and then you can be like, “why don’t I make my eyes a bit wider? My pupils a bit bigger?”‘
Nadia was supported by co-star Jane Moore who admits she would do the same.
‘If they had a spot – not acne – a spot, I’d probably do that, but anything that is a part of them, no. As an adult you’re then saying to your child, that’s unacceptable.’
Judi Love agreed adding: ‘Personally I don’t think it’s ever right to edit your children’s picture or use any filters on them. It’s just causing self-esteem issues.
‘We have enough problems as it is with social media.’
‘With children, you’re only pointing out things that are not quite right,’ Gloria Hunniford added via video link.
‘I love all the innocence,’ Gloria said as she pulled out a photo of her grandson missing a tooth in a school photo, adding: ‘Would I photoshop the tooth in? Never in a million years.’
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
