Ryan Dorsey ‘can’t imagine’ raising his son Josey, four, without his ex Naya Rivera.
Glee star Naya died aged 33 following a boating trip with son Josey at Lake Piru in California.
She was presumed dead after going missing on 8 July and an extensive search operation took place, with Naya’s body being found and identified on Monday.
Josey had been rescued from the boat, with authorities claiming that Naya had ‘mustered enough energy’ to save her son and get him back on board, but was unable to save herself.
Ryan had joined the search operation and was seen at Lake Piru with Naya’s family and relatives. Sources now claim that Naya’s ex ‘can’t imagine’ raising their son without her.
‘Ryan has barely slept,’ the insider told People. ‘It’s just a nightmare. Although he wasn’t with Naya, it’s Josey’s mum. Josey needs his mum.’
They added: ‘Ryan can’t imagine raising Josey without Naya. It’s the most devastating situation… since Naya disappeared, Ryan and Josey have spent ever day with Naya’s family.
‘They are all supporting each other while also taking care of Josey.’
Metro.co.uk has reached out to Ryan’s rep.
He and Naya married in Mexico in July 2014 and welcomed son Josey just over a year later in September 2015.
The pair split after two years of marriage and their divorce was finalised in 2018, with both sharing joint custody of Josey.
Since news of Naya’s death broke, tributes have flooded in for the actress who is best known for playing Santana Lopez on Fox series Glee for six years from 2009 to 2015.
Many of her Glee co-stars have honoured her on social media, including Amber Riley (who played Mercedes Jones), Matthew Morrison (Will Schuester), Lea Michele (Rachel Berry), Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray) and Naya’s close friend Heather Morris who had played her onscreen girlfriend on the show (Brittany S. Pierce).
Kevin McHale, who starred on the musical series as Artie Abrams, paid tribute to Naya while telling fans he believes late Glee star Cory Monteith (Finn Hudson) helped to find her body.
Naya was found on the anniversary of Cory’s death. He died from an overdose on 13 July.
Responding to a video a fan had posted of Naya and Cory greeting fans after a live Glee show, Kevin wrote on Twitter: ‘I’m not religious by any means, but you’d be hard-pressed to convince me that Cory didn’t help find our girl today.
‘These 2, in many ways, were the male and female versions of one another. So nice, cared deeply, were stupidly talented, the most fun, and really really good people.’
