A newsroom worker has been busted tuning into Shrek during a report on a missing woman in Australia.
The employee was caught following the antics of the green ogre on their monitor in Channel Nine’s HQ in Melbourne.
The staffer was watching the hit film, which is voiced acted by the likes of Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy, while reporter Gillian Lantouris delivered a breaking news item on a local missing woman.
The gaffe was spotted by TikTok user Alex Goodman who uploaded the footage on the social media site and captioned the post: ‘Old mate got a little distracted. Hope the woman is found though.
The clip, which has been viewed over 300,000 times at the time of writing, sparked hilarious banter in the comment section, with one viewer commenting: ‘Someone’s getting fired.’
Another joked that news easter eggs were ‘fire’ while a third shared the melting face emoji and wrote ‘WHAT.’
Perhaps the staffer was buffing up ahead of Shrek 5 which is officially on the horizon, according to DreamWorks Animation creative partner Chris Meledandri.
Chris said talks were going well with the OG cast although no contracts had been signed.
‘We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return,’ Chris said in an interview with Variety.
Eddie, 62, even recently chatted about being ready to step into Donkey’s hooves once again, as he declared he’d say yes ‘in two seconds’ if asked to be in a sequel or spin-off.
The first Shrek hit cinemas back in 2001 and follows Shrek (Mike Myres) agreeing to rescue Princess Fiona (Diaz) in exchange for regaining control of his swamp from Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow).
Three instalments have since followed with the latest Shrek Forever After released more than a decade ago in 2010.
