Let’s call it like it is, Hollywood is full of “nepo babies.” From Hollywood superstars like Zoë Kravitz to newcomers like Deacon Phillippe, many actors, singers, musicians and models in the industry today have famous parents. Given their familial way in, they’ve become somewhat of controversial figures. According to New York Magazine’s latest issue about Hollywood’s second generation, “We love them, we hate them, we disrespect them, we’re obsessed with them.”
Earlier this year, Lily-Rose Depp, daughter to Johnny Depp and French model Vanessa Paridis, talked to Elle about her infamous “nepo baby” label. “I feel like for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever,” she said. “And I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.” In fact, Depp is on her way to making a name for herself as an actor as the new star of Sam Levinson’s upcoming HBO series The Idol.
For Maude Apatow, oldest daughter of Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow, she knows she has a lot to prove before the haters back off. “A lot of people [in a similar position] have proven themselves over the years, so I’ve got to keep going and make good work,” Apatow, who had a leading role in Euphoria, told Porter. “It’s so early in my career, I don’t have much to show yet, but hopefully one day I’ll be really proud of the stuff I’ve done by myself.”
Though we’re not here to say who’s deserving or not of becoming famous, we are here to celebrate their well-deserved successes! Check out the kids of celebrities who really wowed us with their careers this year.
