Piers Morgan and Dan Walker support Lewis Capaldi after Glastonbury set struggle

Celebrities including Piers Morgan and Dan Walker have joined the chorus of people supporting Lewis Capaldi after the singer struggled during his Glastonbury set, with thousands singing along to help him during his performance.

On Saturday, the 26-year-old graced the Pyramid Stage, after announcing earlier this month that he was taking a break from all commitments until the music festival.

In his previous statement, which he released on social media, the singer said that the last few months had been ‘full on’ and he had been ‘struggling to get to grips with it all’.

Lewis, who has Tourette’s syndrome, broke off from the middle of a song while on stage, but his audience were on hand to give him a boost, singing the tune loudly in unison in a beautiful show of support and solidarity.

A clip from the performance circulated on social media, with numerous members of the public expressing how moving a moment it was.

Chiming in, Channel 5 presenter Dan tweeted: ‘Special moment at #Glastonbury as the crowd help Lewis Capaldi ❤️.’

TalkTV broadcaster Piers added: ‘Wow. This was amazing. Kudos to @LewisCapaldi for not quitting – and kudos to the #glastonbury2023 crowd for singing him through his obvious issues.’

Reacting to the video, journalist Victoria Derbyshire wrote: ‘This is beautiful… just beautiful.’

TV host Lorraine Kelly stressed how lovely a person Lewis is in real life, penning: ‘Lovely @LewisCapaldi is such a kind, sweet talented fella – and you can see how much everyone loves him❤️.’

Glee star Damian McGinty also added: ‘Powerful video. Heartbreaking to see Lewis Capaldi struggling like that.

‘One of the greatest things about being a performer is it takes us somewhere else, the crowd too. Lewis deserves to enjoy it and not just survive it. He should take some time out to focus on himself.’

One Twitter user explained that she’s a mother of a child with Tourette’s, and felt ‘so grateful’ of all of the people at Glastonbury who rallied behind Lewis.

‘As the mum of a little one with Tourettes I’m so grateful to every person at Glastonbury who sang along, didn’t judge and just supported Lewis,’ she tweeted.

‘He was amazing and I hope he knows he’s loved by so many…’

As he finished his performance, a defeated-looking Lewis told the crowd: ‘Sorry, I’m a bit annoyed at myself.’

The Brit Award-winning and Grammy-nominated artist continued: ‘I recently took three weeks off, just because I’ve been non-stop this past year and needed a break for my head and my mental health, but I wanted to come back and do Glastonbury because it’s obviously so incredible, so I wanted to thank you all for coming out and watching us.

‘I was s**t scared, but you really put me at ease so thank you very much.’
