Piers Morgan urges Katy Perry to reveal truth about Russell Brand

Piers Morgan has said he ‘winces’ recalling an old interview with Russell Brand in the wake of new rape and abuse accusations surrounding the comedian.

On Wednesday, Morgan said ‘there can be no doubt Brand considers women some kind of prey’ and also questioned why Brand’s ex-wife Katy Perry ‘won’t reveal the truth’.

Morgan reflected on a 2006 chat he had with Brand for a magazine and revealed he asked the comedian: ‘Are you a more successful sexual predator now that you don’t drink?’

‘Yes, but I resent the word “predator”. I like to think of myself as a conduit of natural forces,’ Brand replied.

Writing in the Sun, Morgan reflected: ‘I didn’t know if he was an actual sexual predator […] but there can be no doubt from the way Brand spoke about women that he considered them as some kind of prey.’

He also revealed Perry once denied an interview with Morgan for fear he’d ‘get the truth out of her’.

Morgan then asked: ‘What truth was she worried about admitting?’

He went on to explain that their meeting took place in 2013 at a Vanity Fair party shortly after her divorce from Brand.

Perry – who shares a three-year-old daughter with long-term partner Orlando Bloom – started a whirlwind romance with Brand in 2009, before they married on October 23, 2010, in a lavish ceremony at a tiger sanctuary in India.

However, the pair split just 14 months later when Brand told Perry he wanted a divorce via text message before she was set to hit the stage.

Morgan claims she told him during their encounter a decade ago that she ‘wasn’t ready to tell the truth’.

The Talk TV presenter also revealed Perry referred to Brand as ‘Rasputin’, adding in his latest article: ‘Why did she call her ex-husband “Rasputin”, after the fiercely intelligent but sex-crazed, manipulative, controlling and sinister bearded Russian monk?’

Brand featured in Channel 4 and The Times’ collaborative Dispatches episode on Saturday night in which he faced allegations of rape, sexual assault, and controlling and emotionally abusive behaviour.

He denied the ‘very very serious allegations’ in a video posted across his social media platforms on Friday night ahead of the episode, as well as an expose from the newspaper.
