Storage Wars star Gunter Nezhoda has died after a battle with lung cancer, his son and co-star confirmed.
Rene Nezhoda explained that his father had died on Tuesday night in his sleep in Salt Lake City, aged 67.
Nezhoda had been diagnosed with lung cancer in therapy, with his son explaining that the chemotherapy treatment he received caused holes in his lungs, and he died of complications from the cancer.
Rene said: ‘Today is a very sad day, and this is a very hard video for me to make, I’ve made this video many times already. I’m just going to say it the way I say it.
‘My dad six months ago was diagnosed with lung cancer, he’s been smoking for 30 years.’
He continued in a video to TMZ: ‘Last night he passed away in his sleep peacefully from complications from lung cancer.
‘He had all kinds of holes in his lungs and there’s nothing else that doctors could do.
‘I’m only making this video because a lot of you guys connected with my dad.
‘My dad was one of the guys on storage wars that never really got any hate, people just loved being around him, including the crew, including everybody, everybody loved working with my dad.
‘So, I appreciate all the support, and a lot of people have been asking lately how my dad is doing and I haven’t really talked about anything because we kept it private.
‘We thought he was going to fully recover but unfortunately he didn’t.’
Rene added: ‘He was 67 years old, and all the love that you guys have shown him, and the support, he really appreciates that.
‘And now hopefully he’s up there in heaven with my mum, dancing again, and no more pain and stuff like this.
‘So anyway, thank you for all the love and everything else, but it’s a sad day today.’
Nezhoda appeared on seven episodes of Storage Wars between 2015 and 2019, with the publication reporting that he filmed an episode for the upcoming 14th season.
