Strictly professionals 'battling' to be paired with these two celebs

It’s not long now until Strictly Come Dancing returns to our screens, and the show’s professional dancers are eager to find out who their partners are.

The dancing competition is officially back next month, with Angela Rippon, Zara McDermott, and Les Dennis among the big celebrity names in the line-up.

EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier, Channel 4 news correspondent Krishnan Guru-Murthy, and Ms Selfridge actress Amanda Abbington are also competing.

And behind the scenes it appears Zara and Bobby in particular have caught the eye during gruelling training sessions that take place before the show begins.

The Love Island star, 26, and Albert Square favourite, 20, are apparently at the centre of a ‘battle’ between the Strictly pros who all want the best pairing.

‘All the dancers want to be paired with [Zara and Bobby] because they both have serious potential on the dance floor,’ a source reported to The Sun.

The source revealed more details about the backstage rumour: There’s a battle between the pros as they all try to convince bosses to get the best pairing.’

‘They know their airtime is largely dependent on how talented their celebrity pairing is, so everything is to play for at this stage,’ they added.

One of the show’s most popular professionals, Gorka, who has been runner-up on three occasions, apparently has his eye on Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach.

This is rumoured to be down to Gorka’s living situation – he currently lives with actress and influencer Gemma Atkinson in Manchester, where Ellie is also based.

As for the older contestants, Les, 69, and Angela, 78, have both surprised the professionals by adapting quickly during the training sessions.

‘Les raised a few eyebrows. He won’t be the joke act at all. He’s serious. And Angela surprised everyone with how swift she was across the dance floor.’

Strictly professional Amy Dowden will be missing from this year’s edition of the series after being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer during spring 2023.

After having a mastectomy, Amy revealed that she’d been given a second cancer diagnosis and would not be able to dance due to chemotherapy.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One this autumn.
