The Kinks star John Gosling dies aged 75

The Kinks star John Gosling has died at the age of 75.

His bandmates confirmed his death in a tribute on Saturday.

The band wrote on their official social media pages: ‘We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of John Gosling. We are sending our condolences to John’s wife and family.’

Meanwhile, vocalist Sir Ray Davies added: ‘Condolences to his wife Theresa and family. Rest in Peace dearest John.’

Guitarist Dave Davies, brother of Sir Ray, said he was ‘dismayed [and] deeply upset by John Gosling’s passing.

‘He has been a friend and important contributor to the Kinks music during his time with us.

‘Deepest sympathies to his wife and family.

‘I will hold deep affection and love for him in my heart always. Great musician and a great man.’

And drummer Mick Avory paid tribute to their ‘dear friend and colleague.’

‘He was a great musician and had a fantastic sense of humour… which made him popular member of the band, he leaves us with some happy memories. God Bless him….’

The Kinks was formed in the 1960s by the Davies brothers, with Gosling joining in 1970 as keyboardist.

He auditioned during the recording session for track Lola – which ende up going to number two in the singles chart.

Band member Gordon Edwards then took over from Gosling, before being replaced by Ian Gibbons in 1970.

Years later, in 1994, Gosling founded The Kast Of Kinks, which he starred in with Avory and other former Kink members Jim Rodford, John Dalton and Dave Clarke, which he was in until 2008.

The Kinks boasted major chart successes in their career, with three number one singles in the UK.
