Always aiming to create pieces that have longevity, Bibhu Mohapatra’s fall collection centers around a celebration of his greatest hits — or rather, “classics” — that exemplify beauty and purpose, providing reassurance to his clients that brighter days are ahead.
The lineup draws a parallel between two distinct artist/muse relationships that flourished about two decades apart, in two parts of the world, one being between A’Lelia Walker and Langston Hughes and the other the decades-long companionship of Gustave Klimt and Emily Flöge.
Many of the silhouettes are from Mohapatra’s archives and include interesting draping, unique necklines and a combination of tailoring and fluid shapes crafted in fabrics including vegan leathers in vivid hues, custom designed 3D lace, velvets, double-faced silk barathea and flocked twill canvas, giving the collection an injection of youthful yet timeless energy.
