Camilla wows in striped dress for Garden Party at Buckingham Palace

Queen Camilla stood proudly on the steps of Buckingham Palace today while hosting her first Garden Party as monarch. The royal highlighted her trim figure in a navy blue and white coat dress and hat to match, which she has been seen in before. The nautical ensemble appears to be her “go-to” for hosting poignant royal events.

The Royal Family’s annual summer Garden Parties came to be closely associated with the late Queen Elizabeth, marking a significant step for the new Queen ahead of the Coronation.

Camilla stood with King Charles and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh – Sophie and Edward – on the steps of the central London palace as the event commenced.

While all were dressed to impress for the occasion, the Queen Consort stood out in a familiar figure-skimming long-sleeve dress.

Having ditched the dark tights for a lighter skin tone, the royal elegantly styled the navy and white number with a matching Philip Treacy hat – both of which were worn for Maundy Thursday in 2022.

The Bruce Oldfield dress is mainly blue in colour, with two white vertical stripes on each side for a slimming effect.

Bold white collars of the coat create a brightening contrast with the dress itself, which also features a plain blue layer underneath.

For this event, Queen Camilla repeated the navy blue straw hat with an angular crown and side-sweeping brim. The accessory was trimmed with an ivory-padded silk hatband.

While she is often seen re-wearing old styles, the strategic style choice is significant as it has been worn for yet another “first” for the Queen Consort.

Last styled for the Maundy Thursday service in York Minster in April 2022, Camilla wore the dress while hosting the event in place of Queen Elizabeth II, who was unable to attend.

She and Charles led the service along with other Easter traditions on the bank holiday weekend, including the Sunday church service, in place of his late mother.

Now as they approach their Coronation date, Camilla’s strategic decision to re-wear the dress could be a sweet nod to Queen Elizabeth II.

While the former Duke and Duchess of Cornwall hosted the Buckingham Palace Garden Party in 2022, this year marks their first time doing it as King and Queen.

This time, however, she paired the dress and matching hat with navy suede heels by Eliot Zed (£275), and black leather gloves.

The royal opted for her classic blow-dry hairstyle, with her silvery blonde locks neatly curled away from her face.

Similarly to her last appearance in the outfit, Camilla also chose to wear her four-stranded pearl necklace with a round diamond clasp.

Despite having an impressive jewel collection, this necklace is often styled by the Queen Consort for daytime events.

While the warmer weather means fewer people are wrapping up warm, coat dresses are commonly worn by women in the Royal Family for one key reason.

According to Daena Borrowman, Marketing Manager at Jewellerybox, the style is a “go-to” well into summer because they are bound by royal protocol.

Speaking previously to Express.co.uk, she explained that “royal women are expected to keep their coats on at social events” as “disrobing in public is perceived as distasteful”.

Deana went on to add that this is “why so many royal women prefer coat dresses”.
