Expert reveals you don't need to buy new pants if yours are too big – you can shrink them at home, here's how

WHEN it comes to jeans, finding the perfect fit isn't always easy, and getting them tailored is an extra expense.

An expert has revealed their techniques to shrinking your jeans at home so that they fit just right.

Hallie Abrams, a stylist and the founder of The Wardrobe Consultant revealed the secret to shrinking jeans to Martha Stewart: "Boiling your jeans for 20 to 30 minutes and then drying them in a hot dryer will usually shrink them more quickly than the washer method — and shrink them slightly more effectively."

Another method of shrinking she suggested involves wearing your jeans in a hot bath and then letting them dry on your body. Wearing the wet jeans in the hot sun will help speed up this process.

But shrinking your jeans at home doesn't work for all your wardrobe woes. "The shrinkage method will be most permanent in length," Abrams said. "The other areas will have warmth, tension, and friction and likely stretch out again with wear."

You can expect your jeans to shrink down one number size if you use one of the hot water methods.

You'll save money and get to keep your favorite jeans.

If you want a more tailored fit, getting your jeans altered is your best bet.

At-home fashion fixes can be life-savers. If you have a baggy dress you love that doesn't fit quite right, another fashion expert, Kristina Kacheeva, has a hack for you.

In a video that's been viewed over a million times, Kristina started by holding the bangle on the outside of the dress.

Then reaching inside the dress, she grabbed extra fabric to tighten the dress then secured it over the bangle using the hair tie.

The trick resulted in a cute o-ring effect at her back and a much more flattering fitted dress.

Kristina wrote in the comments that this trick can also work with an earring or any kind of bangle.

Many people loved this hack, such as one user who wrote: "Really good idea!!" and another who wrote: "Great idea! Now I can keep a few dresses I was going to get rid of!"
