Model Ilwaad Marsal recently blew up on Twitter after she shared photos of herself advertising a range of plus-size clothing on PrettyLittleThing.
The 21-year-old from London was said to be the first hijabi Muslim woman appearing on the fashion website.
Ilwaad, a small business owner, was seen advertising various pieces for the brand including going out dresses and work attire as part of PLT’s modest range.
The fashion retailer said it was releasing a Modest Clothing Edit after it launched in the Middle East.
Ilwaad tells Metro.co.uk: ‘PrettyLittleThing recently launched the Middle Eastern range and they reached out for me as a Muslim to represent the idea and I got to be apart of the campaign.
‘The love has been so unreal, I’m really happy that I got to be a part of something so big, just being able to represent other modest women and to have that representation is amazing.’
People couldn’t get enough of the looks served by Ilwaaad and praised her in their droves.
The post received more than 500,000 likes, with people commenting: ‘This is exceptionally beautiful,’ and ‘Seeing some hijabi representation in mainstream media is a huge step for us’.
Ilwaad also received some negative comments on the post but said she was still proud of her moves and that it was a big deal for the community.
She told us: ‘A brand as big as PLT taking that step to be so inclusive is a positive thing and it will definitely encourage other competitors to do the same.
‘It’s nice to have that equal representation because not only am I a modest dresser, I’m also Black and plus-size so a lot of girls can relate to me in one aspect or the other.
‘I think the more modest representation, the better because little girls will grow up feeling comfortable and stylish knowing huge brands like PLT are including them and their potential style.’
