I rent out my husband for £40 a time and you should do the same – he’s fully booked for weeks | The Sun

A MUM decided to rent out her husband to other women for odd jobs and business is booming – he's fully booked for weeks..

Four months ago Laura Young started 'Rent My Handy Husband' after she got the idea from a podcast describing a man making a living putting together flatpack furniture for other people.

The mum-of-three advertised James on Facebook and the Nextdoor app – within a day he had his first customer and not long after that he was being called out six days a week.

He charges £40 per job and offers anything from putting up a TV, building flat-pack furniture, general DIY or decorating and is now fully booked until mid-November.

Laura said: "I never expected it to take off as much as it has.

"We've only been going four months and it got to a point where there was so much work coming in that James was working six days a week.

"We had our own building plans that we've not even started as we've just been so busy.

"We booked our first job for January too."

Handy man James is in such popular demand, people have been requesting his services from 9am to 8pm and he has been forced to turn down some jobs.

The 42-year-old also had to reduce his working hours to 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

But he has since began a festive service which includes installing Christmas lights.

Laura added: "He's really good at building things and doesn't bother with the instructions.

"So I thought this would be something he could do.

"He’s good at everything around the house and garden, so I thought why not put those skills to use and hire him out?”

"James doesn't come from a trade background but his grandad was a nuclear engineer, and they think he was also on the spectrum," the 38-year-old added.

"He's got a very methodical mind and can think outside the box. He see's things differently," she continued.

The couple are even receiving job requests in Manchester, although they have suggested people find a handyman who lives closer.

James started by helping his first customer by replacing a door frame but has since taken on laying carpets, tiling and re-building walls.

'Rent My Handy Husband' charge about £40 per job as Laura and James want to provide a service anyone could access.

Laura said: "We know what it's like to be parents of children with special needs and we've known what it's like to struggle for money or have to save.

"The hire charges average around £35 a house and no job is too small. It can be as little as fitting a TV to the wall, fitting a blind or painting a fence.

"We want to keep the charges to a minimum and be honest with people. We know what it’s like to be on a budget, so we offer discounts to disabled people, carers, people on Universal Credit and the over 65s.”
