I tried Aldi's new 29p 'fish alternative' in a tin – here’s what I thought and if it's even worth that | The Sun

IT'S the "fish alternative" that Aldi are selling for just 29p a tin.

But one man who tried the banana blossom was left unimpressed – to say the least.

He's been sharing money saving tips and tricks on his Cost of Living Crisis TikTok page, and is always first in line to try a new bargain.

But even he couldn't convince himself to like the banana blossom.

"Aldi are selling Banana Blossom which is a plant-based alternative to fish," he began his video.

Opening the tin, he added that it "doesn't look very appetising".

And as there were also no cooking instructions on the tin, he decided to just go ahead and boil it.

Once he'd drained the pan, he gave it a try, but couldn't bring himself to eat much of it.

"It tastes like a wet, tangy nettle and I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy," he said.

However, people in the comments section were quick to tell him that he'd prepared it wrong – and he should have marinated it before frying.

"Oh my. You’re supposed to marinate it and make a faux tuna salad!" one insisted.

"I know the tin didn’t have instructions, but why didn’t you google?!"

"Jackfruit and things like this and tofu are a base for 'meat'," another added.

"You can marinate them to suit whatever you want."

"You have to flavour it," a third wrote.

To which the man replied: "You can’t polish a…."

"To be fair I’d say boiling it isn’t the thing to do! You wouldn’t boil a tin of tuna," someone else commented.

As the man responded: "This isn’t tuna mate. I wouldn’t even call it food."

"I think you missed out the seasoning part," another wrote.

"No seasoning can save this monstrosity," the man insisted.
