ONE parent is sounding the alarm after being asked to pay $34 to accompany their child to another kid's birthday party.
A post was shared to the U.K.-based website Mumsnet, igniting a debate over the situation.
User arachnidpearl expressed shock and confusion over being asked to pay to attend the party, which was being held in England at a climbing wall activity center.
"Would welcome views on this," the post begins.
"My DS [dear son] has been invited to a child's party on Saturday. It's at an activity place with a climbing wall then food afterwards. Accepted invitation weeks ago, have bought card and gift etc.
"We've been sent a message yesterday from birthday child's parent last night which says that all children under 8 must be supervised by an adult each, which is ok with me I don't mind saying (would rather not, but it's not the end of the world) but that in order to stay and supervise we have to buy a full-price adults ticket, which costs £25.
"Is this usual? It seems a bit of a cheek to me."
Users were quick to jump in and share their two cents.

"Not a chance I’d go to that," one user chimed in.
"Crazy, are you absolutely sure this applies to adults supervising at parties?," another said.
Some seem to think it could have been an oversight on the host's part.
"I wouldn’t go as it seems a bit much," someone else said.
The original poster responded to a handful of comments, providing more insight.
"It is only a small party anyway, maybe 8 children? And they're all under 8 except for the birthday child, so all parents will have to stay and pay.
The poster goes on to say they suspected most parents were planning on staying regardless.
However, they were not convinced the other parents would have been expecting to fork out additional cash just to stay.
"Kids food and drinks are part of the party apparently," the poster responded to one user.
"I've no issue buying myself a coffee or whatever but I do object to paying … for mandatory supervision of my child that I will be providing at a party that we've been invited to!"
The original poster also added that she's seven months pregnant and unable to participate in any of the climbing activities.
The thread garnered nearly 550 messages.
