THE SUN is out and us Brits are embracing a bit of Costa Del UK in our back yards.

But aside from a cracking tan and perfect BBQ weather, the sun can also bring with it the risk of a dried out, patchy lawn.

When your grass doesn't get the water and nutrients it needs, it can end up yellow and straw-like.

Pro lawn care expert and director of TotalLawn, Carlos Real shared his top tips for sprucing up your lawn and having it looking green and healthy in no time.

In an ideal world, you'd counter this by watering your lawn every two to three days to keep it well fed and lush.

Expert advise is to do this in the morning and not when the sun is at its hottest – so the water doesn't just evaporate away.

The pro also suggested that using too much fertiliser could be causing your lawn problems.

This causes nitrogen and salt levels in the soil to sky rocket which will not do your grass any favours.

The best way to avoid this is to water before and after fertilising the lawn.

He also said that having a pet, while we all love the fluffy scamps, can have a bad effect on your garden.

He explained that a pet's pee can be so acidic, it can completely wipe out a patch of your lawn.

Carlos advised that pets are trained to go to the bathroom in a specific spot in the garden, and that shouldn't be on the lawn.
