Inside the 'Kardashian curse' – how men struggle after dating the family, but 'celebrity currency' could help Bad Bunny | The Sun

KENDALL Jenner’s latest love interest, Bad Bunny is fast becoming a firm fixture in her close-knit Hollywood friend set.

And the next step for the Puerto Rican rap star could be meeting the millionaire model's world-famous family.

As exclusively revealed in The U.S. Sun Kendall, 27, and the 28-year-old singer's romance is hotting up, with the pair twice double-dating Hailey and Justin Bieber.

And while Kendall is fresh out of a relationship with NBA player, Devin Booker, Bad Bunny is also newly single after separating from Gabriel Berlingeri.

Given the pair's contrasting social sets, former partner types, and rebound status, this budding celebrity partnership could quickly fail.

Whatever the end result though, romancing a Kardashian/Jenner and joining the infamous reality TV tribe means a life changed forever.

To some, it brings added pressure, and for others, it means a once-promising career on the slide.

The Kardashian/Jenners are famed for hooking up with well-known personalities including successful footballers, basketball stars, and popular rappers.

And while getting romantic with a Kardashian has been said to be a career curse, from a PR perspective, these unions can turn out to be pure gold.

“Dating Kendall Jenner will definitely make Bad Bunny’s music career, " explains brand and culture expert Nick Ede.

“He’s already a well-known performer in the Latin community.

“Bad Bunny’s celebrity currency will rise due to his association with one of the most famous models in the world and more people will follow him.”

By contrast, Kylie Jenner once said: “The Kardashian curse is every male figure that comes and dates a Kardashian."

She added: "Their life kind of just goes downhill after that.”

And while some Kardashian exes' lives have been left in tatters after leaving the fold, if Bad Bunny plays his cards right, he could reap the benefits.

KANYE IN CHAOS

Kanye West's music and fashion profile was boosted after meeting Kim Kardashian and marrying her in 2012.

And while the world-famous power couple’s careers strengthened, Kimye's 2021 divorce and the rapper's online rants saw Kanye lose millions in branding deals and endorsements.

After a stab at politics and the presidency, the divorced father-of-four has since retreated to Malibu alongside Kim lookalike, Bianca Censori.

“Being a part of the Kardashian clan left a mark on Kanye,” explains Nick.

“I don’t think it helped his career as he was struggling with his own brand identity and his own personal one too.

“His imprint also changed Kim too and although it shaped her and her brand and her aesthetic, this relationship turned out to be not of benefit to either of their careers.”

LOST LAMAR

When Khloe Kardashian tied the knot with basketball star Lamar Odom in 2009, it seemed like a match made in heaven.

At the time, the Olympic and World Cup medal holder was one of US basketball’s rising stars.

The pair's equally high-profile careers helped them bag their own reality series, Khloe & Lemar.

Amid cheating and drug abuse allegations, Khloe filed for divorce in 2016 and today the 43-year-old is an amateur boxer.

“Dating Khloe didn't benefit Lamar at all, “ says Nick.

“It kept him in the limelight but ultimately his infidelity caused a well-publicized split and he's been trying to repair his damaged reputation ever since.”

SUPER SCOTT

Kourtney’s children's father, Scott Disick, entered the Kardashian fold in 2006 and quickly became a solid star on KUWTK by 2007.

But after a public struggle with drugs and alcohol, and following a 2015 stint in rehab, the pair's relationship ended.

These days, Scott spends his time parenting their three kids while trying out multiple business ventures.

The 39-year-old's clothing brand, vitamin business, and nightclub appearances have contributed to Scott being worth a whopping $45 million.

“Scott has thrived off being part of the Kardashians for many years and has made a lot of money while creating his own brand alignment,” adds Nick.

“He has benefitted greatly from having children with Kourtney, plus he’s still in the show and is a really popular character.”

TRICKY TYGA

Tyga was with Kylie Jenner for three years and already had a string of hits behind him at the time.

But as the rapper's career strengthened further alongside Kylie's, it was their age gap and cheating allegations that reportedly saw them part ways in 2017.

Tyga also had a son with Blac Chyna while Kylie went on to date Travis Scott before having her daughter Stormi with him.

“Tyga has claimed that it's because of him that Kylie is so successful which many people disagree with, ” adds Nick.

“He benefitted greatly from his association with Kylie and became a household name so it was definitely the other way around.”

CUT OUT KRIS

Former basketball player Kris Humphries was married to Kim for 72 days and from 2019 he consistently appeared on the show.

But Kris quickly began to struggle with booing from basketball fans on the court alongside living the reality TV life, which was wide open for everyone to see.

Despite a $10 million designer wedding, the pair divorced weeks later in 2013.

After retiring from basketball in 2018, the 38-year-old moved to Minnesota where he works in real estate and fast-food franchising.

“Kris always seemed reluctant to be a part of the Kardashian circus and even his wedding felt like he didn’t want to be there," explains Nick.

“Kris didn’t benefit at all from his short-lived marriage to Kim and drifted off into obscurity, where he felt much more at home than in the constant limelight.”

ROCK ON REGGIE

Kim started dating football star Reggie Bush in 2007, with the former Miami Dolphins player lucky enough to appear on KUWTK.

At the time, he was a respected footballer and at the top of his game.
