Meet the two frontline NHS nurses battling it out to become the next Miss England

NHS healthcare workers have been front and centre of late, due to their heroic work on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.

But despite the long hours and tough working conditions, two nurses are in the running to be crowned Miss England this year after getting through to the semi-finals of the annual competition.

The competition will be held virtually in July, and NHS heroes Rebecca Sinnarah, 22, and Chloe Webb, 24,  are vowing to use their positions to champion the work of the health service.

Revealing what it is like working in the pandemic, newly-qualified nurse Chloe, from Nofolk, said: “The experience has been overwhelming at times, however I am fortunate to work among great healthcare professionals who make such a difficult task easier. I feel proud to be doing my part during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking of the competition she added: “I’m enjoying it and finding the experience fun and rewarding.

“My future aim is to continue with nursing and follow my passion of becoming an oncology nurse and looking after people suffering with cancer.

She also said that she'd like to raise awareness for the "amazing work" that her colleagues and NHS staff have been doing during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Chloe's rival Rebecca, a paediatric nurse from Middlesex, said: “It hasn't been easy but there's no place I'd rather be than with my patients right now.

"It's extremely hard to see what they go through but I am doing the best I can for them to get better. We deal with daily challenges and one of the main issues was PPE, it was really difficult because we didn't have the right stuff to protect us, so we are at high risk.”

Like Chloe, Rebecca said she is planning to use the competition to get more people talking about mental ill health.

She added: “I'm extremely happy to be part of the competition as this allows me to bring my main purpose to a global platform.

"This is raising mental health awareness in children and young people.

"Being a Paediatric Nurse I see daily challenges that children and young people face and I'm just here to say there is support out there.

"My aim is to educate children and young people, as well as teachers and parents. They need to know the importance of mental health. I want to let everyone know they shouldn't be suffering in silence.”

The duo join reigning Miss England Bhasha Mukherjee, 24, who is also working on the frontline during coronavirus as a doctor
