THE world watched as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot at the weekend – but some royal fans spotted a surprising detail about Prince George’s page boy outfit.
The four-year-old royal broke with tradition for the first time, wearing trousers instead of his signature shorts.
For the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the little prince donned a custom-made uniform by Saville Row tailors Dege & Skinner.
His outfit was the miniature version of the uniform worn by dad Prince William and his uncle Prince Harry, which were inspired by their former regiment Blues and Royals.
While George may have ditched his shorts temporarily, an etiquette expert revealed why we are unlikely to see him in trousers again anytime soon.
William Hanson explained that trousers are considered too “middle class and suburban” for the elite.
He told The Sun Online: “Not only does The Duchess of Cambridge have to worry about dressing herself but she has to dress her own children appropriately.
"She has to find a balance between royal tradition, heritage and more proletariat customs, such as the ‘suburban’ habit of making young boys wear trousers."
William said the dress code harks back to historic traditions that state "shorts are for little boys, trousers are for men".
It is likely that George will start wearing trousers at around "seven or eight years old".
Keen-eyed royal fans were quick to take to Twitter to point out the change in Prince George’s attire.
One wrote: “I think this is the first time I've seen Prince George in trousers.”
Another said: “Just saying was #TheRoyalWedding2018 the first time the world saw Prince George in full length trousers? Honestly don’t think I’ve seen it before.”
Meanwhile one Twitter user wrote: “An exciting day for Prince George! We think this was the first time he appeared in public wearing full trousers!”
