However, it didn’t help enough to prevent the brand from being demoted from the FTSE 100 for the first time, in the latest sign of the retailer’s declining fortunes.
The new M&S campaign unveiled yesterday features some key shapes for the new season, like a €95 oversized faux shearling aviator jacket in black with chestnut lining and a vibrant €60 floral printed midi dress. Willoughby wears the dress in autumnal tones on the high street giant’s website.
M&S is keeping its eye on hard-working basics like denim and layering separates and on budgets too, with prices starting at €6 for a pure cotton tee, rising to €135 for a wool-blend coat.
At a photocall styled by Catherine Condell in Dublin, there was comfort and a touch of welcome winter reds featuring an Autograph Teddy coat (€135), M&S Collection black polo (€34) and side-stripe trousers (€49). Watch out for more blues entering our wardrobes.
For sheer versatility, it’s hard not to be wooed a little by the M&S Collection blue print satin dress (pictured) which boxes well above its weight in terms of price. With its pretty pleated skirt, roll neck and reptilian print, it looks like it should cost far more than €88.
