a Zara jacket, a Zara long-sleeved silk shirt and H&M pants. My shoes are from London Rebel. I got them from the South Wharf DFO. I think I got my socks from Big W, and I’m wearing a cross necklace from Michael Hill. My bag is from a random shop in Bentleigh. I was on the train and I missed my stop. I opened the PTV app on my phone to try and see how to re-route to my original destination, and I saw that there was a bus coming in a few minutes near Bentleigh station. I got off at Bentleigh and I saw the shop near the bus stop. What really attracted me to the bag was the map of Australia on it. I’m applying to do my PhD in Tasmania, and it has a map of Tasmania. That’s the reason why I bought the bag.
MY STYLE IS classic yet trendy. I like to buy pieces that I will want to wear irrespective of the year, time or season. I like to keep it classy but trendy at the same time.
I ADMIRE THE STYLE OF Meghan Markle because she’s a bit bohemian, which I like, but still trendy. I also like Amal Clooney. I would consider her style to be classic and trendy as well. She doesn’t wear trendy pieces that will just fade away. They’re pieces that she could literally wear whenever or however she wants but she’ll still remain classy and trendy. She knows what suits her body.
MY FAVOURITE PLACES TO SHOP ARE Zara. My wardrobe is basically 80 per cent Zara. I’m trying to branch out to different shopping places, but I’m very particular about the quality of fabric, and Zara use good fabrics at pocket-friendly prices. I like the H&M Studio line because it uses higher quality materials. For me, the fabric is very important. I sometimes go into Bardot, and I also get a bit of stuff from Glassons and Sheike. I go into Big W when I’m shopping for household stuff so I might end up buying a pair of stockings from there, but if I’m wearing trainers, I like to stick with Nike or adidas socks because they’re fluffy and thicker.
MY BIGGEST FASHION MISTAKE WAS I love shirts and I usually like to use a safety pin between the middle buttons to stop it from gaping around the chest, but sometimes I’ve forgotten to pin it down. I usually like to try out my clothes at home and play dress-up before wearing them out. If I’m wearing it at home for a couple of hours, I can figure out if something doesn’t work, where it fits and where it doesn’t fit. When I’m out and dressed up, I’m not wearing that look for the first time because I’ve previously worn it inside. I can’t think of a particular fashion mistake because I don’t go out much, and if I go out, I like to know the weather, the people there and the kind of place it is because I want to be comfortable and mentally prepared.
WHEN I WAS A KID I WORE dresses. I grew up in Nigeria so I don’t know if they’re very popular around here but they have pleats around the waist and Peter Pan collars. They’re very baby-ish. They’re usually very colourful and some of them are made from African fabrics. I was about 10 or 12 years old when I wore them, so I wasn’t able to make my own fashion decisions. I basically wore what my parents told me to wear.
I WOULD NEVER BE CAUGHT DEAD IN It used to be jumpsuits but I recently bought a jumpsuit from H&M and it was really nice. I don’t know, I like to explore fashion styles and trends, so I wouldn’t know unless I tried it out and realised it didn’t work, but I can’t think of anything I wouldn’t wear.
