A SUPER saver mum has revealed how she is able to feed her family for £12.50 each a week with clever meal planning.
Lara Joanna Jarvis is known for her money-saving tips and tricks, sharing them on her YouTube channel where she boasts over 38,000 subscribers.
And in a recent video she revealed how she buys breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for herself, husband and two boys for £50, that’s just £12.50 per head.
She said: “Your food bill, other than your rent or mortgage is basically one of your most expensive bills a month.
“But I am going to prove to you that it can be done (cheaper) it will take a lot of planning and a lot of prep but it can be done.”
Like most families, Lara is faced with a variety of different food demands, as she is flexitarian, her partner is vegan and her two kids still eat meat.
To make her shop more cost effective, Lara suggests making a meal plan so you can work out all the ingredients you will need for the week.
She was quick to remind viewers that she already had a few things in her fridge to kick-start her meals including a cabbage, tomato, carrot, peppers, onion, courgettes, spring greens, lemon, garlic and some butter.
Before hitting the shops Lara sits down to meticulously plan each and every meal, and recommends viewers pick recipes which require store cupboard ingredients they are likely to own.
The mum also recommends going through the supermarket website to get an estimated cost beforehand so that you don’t go over budget.
Lara will even sit down with old receipts to work out roughly how much her shop is going to cost her.
In the store Lara says it's fine to break away from your list if a better deal comes up while you’re shopping.
The grand total of her shop comes to £50.75.
Lara says: “If you break that down that’s £12.50 a person for everything for a week’s worth of food, I think that is so so good.
“Hopefully this inspires you!”
In other money-saving news, this mum bagged £35 worth of fresh food for just £3.
Another mum revealed how she feeds her whole family for just £25 a week – and there’s enough for guests too.
Plus this shopper picked up a £40 toaster for just £3 in B&M.
