We’re cleaning pros, your electric toothbrush charger is probably filthy – but there’s a 1p hack to save it | The Sun

CLEANING pros have revealed one of the places everyone forgets to check for dirt – and it’s likely yours is in need of an urgent tidy up.

Brand Purdy and Figg pointed out that many people’s electric toothbrush chargers are filthy after grime has built up, and that they often get cast aside.

But now is the time to take action and give it a good scrub – before using their hack to stop it from happening again.

In a video posted to their TikTok profile @purdyandfigg they revealed they’d come up with a trick to keep it clean after spotting the unhygienic issue.

Alongside footage of their bathroom accessory, they wrote: “How does the toothbrush charger get so dirty?”

However, they then took a cotton wool pad – which cost as little as 1p each if bought in packets from supermarkets – and showed how it could work wonders.

First, they folded it in half and cut a small slit in the centre, which created a tiny hole right in the middle of the pad.

Next, they popped it directly over the charger so that the part that goes into your toothbrush pierces the pad.

Then it’s as simple as placing your toothbrush on top of the pad to charge – with the pad absorbing any dirt.

And it’s important to change the cotton wool pad regularly to avoid it getting messy again –  but, as you can see, the nifty trick takes just seconds.

They also said that if the pad is too thick for your device, the same process can be carried out with “a thinner pad or tissue paper.”

And their social media, cleaning-mad followers loved the idea and said they’d be trying it out as soon as possible.

One person wrote: “Great idea.”

Another typed: “Love this!”

As a third commented: “Such a great idea! I use charcoal toothpaste so I’m constantly cleaning the base.”

Meanwhile, others in the know said that they had already adopted this technique – and had never looked back.

One person said: “I saw someone else post this about a month ago and it’s changed my life.”

However, others voiced their concerns about it potentially being a fire safety and said to ensure you kept an eye on it.
