LET'S face it – the refrigerator isn't one of the most frequently cleaned items in our households.
Apparently, there's a certain spot on them we should be cleaning, though, because it'll help us save money in the long run.
The housing experts at Apartment Guide revealed that people are likely forgetting to clean behind their refrigerators, the place where the coils are located.
Fridge coils, or condenser coils, are usually located in the back of the fridge and sometimes under it, below the doors.
The coils are meant to cool and condense the refrigerant, a chemical used in fridges to keep the air from warming up too much.
If left untouched, the coils can gather dust and dirt, which will make them run less efficiently, per appliance repair company Mr. Appliance.

If a fridge is not running as efficiently, it'll have to work harder, and therefore run the risk of wearing out more quickly than necessary.
Of course, this will cost you more money in the long run because you may be replacing your refrigerator earlier than expected.
So, how do you clean the coils? It's super simple.

IN THE BACK
If coils are located in the back of the fridge, they're fairly easy to get to and clean.

All one has to do is get behind the fridge and simply dust them with a rag, a traditional duster, or something similar, according to Apartment Guide.
Then, you can vacuum up any dust you knocked on the floor.
IN THE FRONT
Apartment Guide noted that coils located in the front of the fridge will have a grate over them, so you will have to remove it to access them.
Of course, if you're not sure how to properly locate the coils or remove the grate, the owner's manual for your fridge may be a useful place to start.
Once you remove the grate, Apartment Guide says you can either vacuum the coils with a brush or crevice attachment, or simply wipe them down with a rag, duster, or even a paintbrush to get rid of the dust.
The website warned to be "firm but cautious," as you don't want to damage the coils.
