A new London opening proves that the finer things in life don’t need to come with an extortionate price tag.
Popular supermarket Aldi has opened a new champagne bar in London – that’s running now until 11pm on Sunday 12 December.
But the pop-up won’t set you back a lot of money over the festive season, with glasses of champagne coming in at just £2.33 and bottles available for £13.99.
That’s because the Aldi Champagne Bar is stocked with the supermarket’s own-brand champers, Veuve Monsigny.
Despite low prices, the bar is located in one of the ‘UK’s most expensive postcodes’ – at St Christopher’s Place in London’s West End.
Guests can sip fizz in a setting of brushed gold and marble decor, with teal velvet furnishings, low lighting and some festive plants thrown in for good measure.
But the drinks menu boasts other treats too, as visitors can also order Veuve Monsigny Rosé for £2.83 a glass, Zerozecco at 49p a glass and a selection of champagne cocktails created by mixologist Pritesh Mody.
Some of these include a cranberry-and-lime-juice Christmas Cosmopolitan, and a Rhubarb and Ginger French – both coming in at less than £3.
To mark the launch earlier this week, members of the public were invited to sample the champagne – not knowing Aldi was behind the bar.
Aldi’s award-winning bubbly is actually now the second best-selling champagne in the UK.
So if you can’t make it down to central London this weekend, you can always toast at home by picking up a bottle in your local supermarket.

And don’t forget a festive espresso martini is always likely to go down a treat with guests.
