Restaurants long considered dining destinations in Denver are proving just as susceptible to the economic impacts of coronavirus.
On Monday, The Source Market Hall’s flagship restaurant, Acorn, closed permanently. Its neighbor and sister dessert shop, Melted, also will close temporarily, owners said.
Acorn joins the ranks of other high-profile Denver dining rooms like 12 @ Madison, Vesta, Euclid Hall and more that have shuttered since the pandemic began. Like those restaurants, it served new American food including wood-fired meats and a kale and apple salad that never left the menu.

Owner Bryan Dayton said he’ll take the next six to eight weeks to figure out what to do with Acorn’s restaurant space next. He plans to open a new concept there by the end of October.
“The uncertainty this pandemic brings has forced us into making incredibly difficult decisions,” Dayton said in a statement. “Words cannot begin to express how grateful we are to our team, our guests and the Denver community for their continued support over the last seven years, especially through these challenging times. We look forward to serving you again soon.”
Acorn is the first sit-down spot to close at The Source during the pandemic. Since opening in 2013, it has served as the food hall’s flagship, landing on many of the city’s “best restaurant” lists. Next door, at the newer Source Hotel, restaurants such as Safta and Smok continue to operate.
