The air fryer is essentially an amped-up convection oven. The small appliance claims to mimic the results of deep frying with nothing more than hot air and little or no oil. This invention is undoubtedly revolutionary, as while fried chicken, chips and doughnuts are all delicious, you can’t help but feel guilty when you eat them knowing they’ve been soaked in oil beforehand. This gadget has surged in recent years, and as of July, 40 percent of homes in the USA owned one.
The four best healthy and nutritious air fryer recipes
Air fryer pizza
You will need:
2 (8oz) packets of pizza dough
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, divided
1 third of a can of crushed tomatoes
1 clove of garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon of oregano
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1/2 8oz Mozzarella ball, cut into quarter slices
Basil leaves, for serving
On a clean, floured surface, gently flatten the ball of dough with your hands until about eight inches in diameter (or roughly smaller than your air fryer basket). Repeat with the second dough ball, and brush both with olive oil and transfer one, oily side up, into the basket of your air fryer.
In a medium bowl, stir to combine crushed tomatoes, garlic and oregano, season with salt and pepper. Spoon half the tomato mixture onto the centre of rollout out pizza dough, then spread into an even layer, leaving half an inch of the outer crust bare.
Add half the mozzarella slices to the pizza. Air fry on 400C for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted.
Remove the first pizza from the fryer using two pairs of tongs and garnish with the basil leaves. Assemble and cook the second pizza, garnish and serve it. Enjoy!
Air fryer salmon
You will need:
2 salmon fillets
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons wholegrain mustard
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 clove garlic, minced
Half a teaspoon thyme leaves
Season salmon all over with salt and pepper. In a small bowl, whisk together oil, mustard, sugar, garlic and thyme, and spread on top of the salmon.
Arrange the salmon in the air fryer basket, set the temperature to 400C and cook for 10 minutes.

Air fryer sweet potato fries
For the fries, you will need:
2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into quarter-inch sticks
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
Half teaspoon garlic powder
Half teaspoon chilli powder
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
In a large bowl, toss sweet potatoes with oil and spices. Season with salt and pepper. Working in batches, spread an even later of sweet potato fries in the fryer basket.
Cook at 375C for five to eight minutes more. Serve the fries with condiments of your choosing or simply eat as a side dish.
Air fryer crispy potatoes
For this recipe, you will need:
1lb baby potatoes, halved
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (optional)
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Lemon wedge, for serving
Freshly chopped parsley, for the garnish
In a large bowl, toss the potatoes with oil, garlic powder, Italian seasoning and Cajun seasoning if you’re using it. Season with salt and pepper too.
Place the potatoes in the air fryer basket and cook at 400C for 10 minutes. Shake the basked and stir the potatoes, cooking until they’re golden and tender, probably about eight to 10 minutes more.
Squeeze lemon juice over the cooked potatoes and garnish with parsley before serving.
