Cooking restaurant-style food at home is easily done in an air fryer, and removes the need for excess fats and oils.
Salt and pepper chicken is just one Chinese-inspired dish that can be made in just 20 minutes from chopping board to table.
While there are so many different ways to do it, one TikTok chef has shared a healthy, low-calorie version that doesn’t compromise on flavour.
Christina (@veryhungrygreek) specialises in “indulgent recipes” that are “low in calories”, and loves using an air fryer to do so.
In a recent video posted on her profile, she said: “Who says healthy food has to be boring? Salt and pepper chicken… it tastes just like [it’s from] a Chinese.”

To make the chicken, start by dicing the raw meat into evenly sized chunks and transfer it to a bowl.
Season with salt, pepper, one teaspoon of Chinese five spice and one teaspoon of soy sauce. Coat the chicken in the seasoning before moving on to the crispy coating.
Crack one egg into a separate bowl and whisk, then fill another with 20g of cornflour. Dip each chunk of chicken into the egg mixture then roll in the flour.
Place in the air fryer basket in one single layer at 180C for 15 minutes.
To a separate pan, add the three finely-diced peppers, mined garlic clove and diced white onion with a little low-calorie oil.
Drizzle with another teaspoon of soy sauce, a teaspoon of Chinese five spice and saute for a few minutes. Sprinkle in a pinch of granulated sweetener and mix well.
Christina said: “Once the chicken is lovely and crispy, mix it all in together and there you have it… enjoy!”
The TikTok chef served the dish with chopped spring onions though fans of the recipe recommended fresh ginger, red chilli and sesame seeds.
