In September last year, London became home to the world’s first cheese conveyor belt, aptly named Pick & Cheese.
It was a feast for the eyes, with 25 different fromages to choose from, all without having to leave the comfort of your seat.
How could one improve on this, you ask? Is it even possible?
The answer is yes – as founder Mathew Carver has just announced an all-you-can-eat cheese offer, dubbed Bottomless Raclette, at his other fromage venue, The Cheese Bar.
However, there is a catch; it only includes one dish – hot melted Ogleshield cheese drizzled on top of Cornish new potatoes, with slices of Crown & Queue Ham and cornichons.
Then again, it is also currently offered at half price, at £9 per person, so it’s not a bad deal.
And you’ll be supporting local businesses, too.
The Cheese Bar has chosen Ogleshield after local cheesemaker Jamie Montgomery, with whom they have a longstanding relationship, was left with tonnes of surplus stock when lockdown hit.
But wait, it gets better.
Pick & Cheese, which is located in Seven Dials Market, is also reopening its conveyor belt, and taking part in the government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme – meaning that you can have as much charcuterie and cheese as your heart desires for just £10, if you dine on a Monday.
And this isn’t just random blocks of cheese, but gourmet dishes.
Choose from a wide selection, such as rosary goat’s cheese stuffed into a mini doughnut with rosemary honey, Spenwood served with cherry and amaretto jam or Fen Farm’s Baron Bigwood with marinated sweet garlic, and much more.
There are some new rules social distancing rules though, including the basics such as face masks for staff and hand sanitiser for customers upon entry.
Additionally, if you pick a plate of cheese and decide you don’t fancy it, you can’t put it back. And diners will also have to sit two chairs apart at the belt bar at all times.
It’s recommended that you book in advance, too.
‘We couldn’t be happier to finally re-open the doors to our restaurants after a long four months!,’ said Mathew.
‘However, the struggle isn’t over and knowing our beloved cheesemakers are sitting on copious amounts of cheese, we knew we had to do something special to help them sell it.
‘By taking advantage of the “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme and the VAT cut to make the numbers stack up on bottomless cheese, I’m so excited to offer our customers exceptional value whilst also showing support to the incredible cheesemakers we work with.’
The special offers will officially launch on 8 August.
