Salmonella infection is a foodborne illness that can cause extreme food poisoning symptoms. Those suffering from it can be left feeling or being sick, with stomach cramps and with aching muscles.
Waitrose Duchy Organic Almonds
Waitrose has issued an urgent warning to recall its Waitrose Duchy Organic Almonds due to the risk of the illness, in a statement released by the Food Standard Agency.
The statement said: “Waitrose & Partners is recalling Waitrose Duchy Organic Almonds 150g because they may contain salmonella.”
Food can be contaminated with the bacteria at any stage during the production process, the processing of the food itself and while cooking.
The products affected by the recall is Waitrose Duchy Organic Almonds with a pack size of 150g and best before day of July 28 2020.
The supermarket chain has issued the precautionary recall and advised customers who have bought the product not to eat it.
Instead, customers who have bought the bags can return them to the store where it was bought.
Customers will be given a full refund and Waitrose has displayed post of sale notices in all stores to make people aware of the risk.
These notices explain to customers why the product has been recalled and to clarify what they should do if they have bought it.
The advice provided by the FSA advises not to eat the product, in a statement, they said: “The product listed above may be contaminated with salmonella.
“Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
“If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
No other Waitrose products are known to be affected with salmonella.

Although food recalls are often done as a precautionary measure, they should be taken seriously to reduce the risk of illness.
Last week, Lidl and Aldi also issued a recall last week on a number of Müller yoghurts were recalled as they may contain small pieces of metal.
