While a big plate of chips or mash might taste heavenly, this might be the first time we’ve heard of divine intervention in the form of a potato.
Dundee mum Nikki Halkerston, however, claims to have found the son of God in a packet of Aldi spuds that cost her £1.15.
Receptionist Nikki, 44, unloaded her shopping and was struck by the pattern in one potato, which looked to her to be that of Jesus Christ.
Calling over her husband in shock, he also agreed that it looked exactly like the Christian figure himself.
Nikki said: ‘As soon as I put the packet on the kitchen top I saw it.
‘I was staring at it and it was just quite obvious it was Jesus’ face.
‘I’ve seen stories before about people finding Jesus in their food but I can never usually see it. This was just so obviously him.’
She added: ‘I’ve eaten it now.’
Whether Jesus himself would approve of being peeled and put in the food waste bin – just a simple byproduct of a shepherd’s pie or steak and chips – we don’t know.
Normally when people believe they’ve been visited by religious deities through stains and watermarks they aim to have them blessed by a priest or minister.
In this case, however, dinner came first for Nikki.
Nikki’s story isn’t the only one of people seeing biblical signs in odd places.
One man believed he’d seen the face of Jesus in an Ikea toilet cublicle, taking a picture as he said he ‘couldn’t ignore’ the resemblance.
In 2015 there were two other ‘sightings’, one being on a hot cross bun in the run-up to Easter and another being on a piece of rock dug up by a man building a new toilet in his garden.
