These plants, which are sold in most supermarkets and garden centres, see their value increase after a naturally occurring variation. How can you spot it?
Many people don’t know some common houseplants can be extremely valuable as these variations are often mistaken for a disease.
Some shops even reduce the plant’s price after it happens.
Britons could make thousands by selling just a small part of the plant, a single leaf of the stem.
These plants can be found in shops such as Lidl and B&Q.
Variegated Monstera Deliciosa
The Monstera Deliciosa is a very common plant also known as Swiss Cheese because of its holes.
The regular green houseplant is actually very cheap, but the variegated monstera is extremely rare and valuable.
Britons will be able to identify it by looking for white markings or lines on their stems, a constellation-like pattern on the leaves or a whole leaf turning white.
Etsy sells just a branch of the rare plant for £4,562.18.
A five-inch stick is listed on Facebook Marketplace for £1,399.

The most expensive Adansonii is listed on eBay at £3,699.
Owners can always sell just a single leaf, which can be found on Etsy for £1,533.39.

It can take a while to show, but if people spot the pink stains on the leaves, they could be selling it for thousands.
Some of these plants are currently selling on Etsy for £2,228 or £200 for a single leaf.
Monstera Obliqua
This may be one of the rarest houseplants but is still present in many British homes.
The Monstera Obliqua’s leaves could be easily mistaken for pest damage.
However, a single leaf of the most sought-after plant is selling on Etsy for £1,590 and on eBay for £1,250.
