Game-changing’ £1 method to keep ants out of your home

This Morning: Expert on how to 'banish ants for good'

It is quite difficult to tackle ants once they are already inside the home, so keep an eye for them at all times, especially if you have left food out and about.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Mariam Kassam wrote: “Hi guys, what can I use to avoid ants in my house?”

The post gained more than 100 comments from fellow users all sharing their methods for tackling ants.

Lizzie McNester said: “Talcum powder is game-changing, we use it every year so keep it stocked up.”

Mary Mchale commented: “Use talcum powder around the home and entry points. They hate stepping in it.”

Susan Chambers wrote: “Use cheap talcum powder on them, they hate it so much.”

Talcum powder can be purchased for as little as £1 from stores like Boots, but many Britons may already have it at home.

The talc works by breaking the ants’ pheromone trail which gets absorbed through their skin and clogs up their airways.

It is also safe to use around pets and children and doesn’t have a strong scent like some other suggestions.

They recommended using lemons, cinnamon as well as chalk, which they claimed was the “easiest” way to keep ants out of the home.

They added: “You could also add some essential oils to the cinnamon to boost its smell.”

“Once the entry point is identified, grab some lemon peel and place it there.
