June is the perfect month to continue growing plants and shrubs. While it may be too late to sow and grow specific plants, others will start to flower in June, adding splashes of colour to gardens.
June 21 will mark the longest day of the year giving plants an extra boost of light and warmth which should encourage a burst of growth.
However, the extra light and warmth will also encourage weeds and any other unwanted plants to pop up.
Gardeners will need to keep on top of these to avoid competition between weeds and plants for nutrients, water and light.
This month, plants will be exposed to more sunlight and warmer temperatures which means they need to be carefully watered.
Container plants, hanging baskets and newly sown or planted areas will need to be prioritised.
Those looking to add more colour to their already bejewelled gardens still can.
Tristan Simmons, a gardening expert from Hillier has shared which plants can be planted in June for “instant impact”.
Tristan told Express.co.uk that lavender, roses and climbers are the “top recommended” plants to grow this month.

He continued: “Our top recommended plants to grow now for instant impact are lavender and roses, but also climbers like summer-flowering clematis, Hydrangea petiolaris and Passiflora.
“Popular summer-flowering shrubs include abutilon, calycanthus, Convolvulus cneorum, deutzia, genista, Hydrangea macrophylla and photinia.
“Perennials such as alliums, aquilegia, campanula, dahlias, echinacea, lupins or peonies will also add fantastic bursts of summer colour.
“It’s also a great time to be thinking about what to plant now to have some colour in late summer.

“Perennials like agapanthus, crocosmia, osteospermum and rudbeckia will flower later in the year, as will shrubs like hardy fuchsias and paniculate varieties of Hydrangea.”
Salad crops can also be sown this month including beetroot, lettuce, pak choi and radishes.
However, salad crops need to be grown in a shady site as hot weather can lead to bitter leaves.
French beans, peas, squash and sweetcorn can also be sown outdoors this month.
