The teens of Summer Bay are currently facing trial exams for their HSC (high school level studies certificate), and Raffy (Olivia Deeble) is struggling with nerves after having to miss her CBD dose now that the medical trial has been cancelled. With no other medical trials nearby that she’s eligible for, the lack of funding available in the area means that Raffy has been left without a solution to manage her epilepsy.
On the morning of her exam, Raffy enters the Diner and confesses she’s nervous. Marilyn (Emily Symons), John (Shane Withington) and Roo (Georgie Parker) all reassure her that she’s eligible for special considerations, and Raffy covers up her nerves, but it’s clear that she’s still feeling the pressure.
Justin (James Stewart) notices her real feelings and takes her for a walk, but Raffy ends up lashing out at him, saying he doesn’t understand what she’s going through. However, Mason (Orpheus Pledger) shows up and diffuses the situation. Taking her into the Surf Club, he explains that the oil will still be in her system for another week, so she won’t have a seizure while the trials are happening.
Raffy arrives at school just in time for the exam, but Mason and Justin are stuck with the realisation that they only have a week to find a more permanent solution to her situation. Meanwhile, Raffy’s deep level of stress leads her to find it impossible to do the paper. The questions blur in front of her, and she starts to panic.
Roo removes Raffy from the exam room so she can calm down enough to go back in and finish the paper, but Raffy says there’s no point and breaks down in Roo’s arms. Roo takes her back to the Diner, where she, John and Marilyn reassure her they will start to set up special consideration. Will Raffy’s health continue to impact her education?
