Sorry, 7-Eleven Slurpee lovers, 2020 just isn't your year.
Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, 7-Eleven made the difficult decision to cancel its annual 7-Eleven Day celebrations. That means it won't be doling out free Slurpees to anyone coming into its convenience stores. However, that doesn't mean the chain isn't celebrating at all.
"At 7‑Eleven, our top priority is the safety of customers, Franchisees, and employees," 7‑Eleven Senior Vice President Marissa Jarratt said in a statement. “Gathering nine million of our closest friends in stores on one day just didn't feel right.”
Rather than invite guests to come in the stores, the chain will instead donate one million meals to Feeding America, a national nonprofit aimed at ending hunger in the U.S., in honor of its birthday. "I am heartened that we now have the opportunity to help the communities and neighborhoods that have been the lifeline of our business since 1927," Jarratt added.
“For nearly two decades, July 11th has been the busiest day of the year for 7‑Eleven stores as millions of customers visit us to kick off summer with their favorite frozen drink,” Jarratt said. “But this year, we have to make changes for the greater good. I hope you’ll join us for the in-person party next year.”

Loyalty members using the 7Rewards app are now able to access a personalized coupon that is redeemable for one free Slurpee throughout the month of July. They can simply walk into any 7-Eleven and grab the treat whenever it's convenient—and safe—to do so.

Signing up now means you're already too late.
