A teenage boy has been found dead in a park in the early hours of this morning.
The youngster, thought to be 17, was pronounced dead by police who had been called to Thomasson Park, Bolton, Greater Manchester, at around 3am.
Greater Manchester Police are keeping an "open mind as to the circumstances surrounding the death", but added it is not currently being treated as suspicious.
Mukhtar Ahmed, who lives nearby, said: "It is very sad, whatever has happened.
"This is not the first time they have found a body on the playground."
Other residents and councillors have expressed their sadness at the news.
"This is a tragic incident and it is shocking for the community. My thoughts are with the family of the young man at this time," said Councillor Akhtar Zaman, of the Labour Party.
A forensics tent has been set up in the corner of the children's playground in the park.
Police officers have been seen in the area today.
The tragedy comes on the same day as the death of another 17-year-old in Preston, Lancashire, around 20 miles away.
The two are being treated as unrelated – but in Preston, the teenage boy fell ill after taking MDMA and cannabis at a house party.
Both investigations continue.
