Britain’s loneliest and unluckiest dog spends 901 days pining for ‘forever home’

A lurcher that has waited 901 days for a home has been labelled "Britain's loneliest dog".

Sam, eight, was first rescued in 2014 from The Destitute Animal Shelter in Bolton, Greater Manchester, and has been adopted three times.

He returned back to the shelter in 2017 where he was adopted once more – but his last owner died six months later.

Animal shelter staff have taken care of Sam for over three years and say he is a loving and playful pup but was just met with unfortunate circumstances.

Shelter manager Karen Rickards said: "It’s never anything Sam’s done, he’s just constantly found himself in the wrong home at the wrong time.

"He’s currently our longest-serving resident."

She continued: "He’s playful, gentle and absolutely loves people.

"We need to find someone who can take care of him. He deserves nothing less than an amazing home."

A heartfelt post on the  shelter's Facebook page shows pictures of Sam frolicking in the grass and playing with a soft toy.
