Dating apps. They’re now one of the most popular ways we meet a romantic partner, but anyone who’s ever used them has their share of gripes.
So the folks creating them are finding new inspiration, specifically in the form of Apple TV show Ted Lasso.
The series starring Emmy winner Jason Sudeikis features a fictional matchmaking app which lets users match without seeing one another’s photos.
The application, called Bantr, has been realised by real-life app Bumble.
Similarly to how it works on the show, Bumble’s Bantr allows people to talk to a match without seeing their pictures.
It will automatically connect people to singles in their area that match a description of their preferences.
But instead of waiting a while until the pics are revealed, Bumble will let you see your match’s pics after just three minutes (so you better form a connection fast).
So you log into Bumble as normal and will then get asked if you’d like to join Bantr Live. If yes, you’ll be able to participate in the photo-less experience.
You’ll still be able to use Bumble as normal, but the Bantr Live event will happen weekly, mirroring the same format as the TV show.
Bumble users will have a countdown at the top of their screen reminding them to take part.
If you choose to get involved, you’ll be matched with someone based on your location, age and gender preferences.
Bumble partnerships chief Olivia Yu said: ‘The premise of Bantr is a dating experience many of our members have expressed interest in over the years.
‘The spirit and themes of the show connect deeply with our mission and values.
‘As huge fans of Ted Lasso, we were so excited to bring the Bantr Live experience to our community.
‘We look forward to people on Bumble having fun with Bantr Live and connecting and dating in a new and exciting way.’
