Changing Room viewers marvelled at the ‘crackers’ transformations on the first installment of the newly revamped show tonight – which included a feature wall made of hair.
The episode, which aired on Channel 4 at 8pm, saw two sets of neighbours from Swansea, South Wales transform each other’s chosen rooms with the help of top designers.
Lisa was keen to rid her bedroom of its dull, mismatched decor in favour of a modern and bright space with the help of Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead, while Claire teamed up with show legend Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen to tackle her beige living room.
Viewers were left baffled by both make-overs – which included typically bright colours and extravagant decor – and while a huge poster of host Laurence plastered on the back of a door made an impression, it was the wall of blonde hair that really caught the public’s attention.

Lisa’s dated, eclectic bedroom with a washed-out colour scheme was transformed into an extravagant, modern 70s-style room featuring pink and purple statement walls and vibrant decor – including an art instillation made from fake blonde hair
‘Hair, wigs, absolutely crackers. This show is about experimenting on fellow human’s houses,’ wrote one viewer.
Another tweeted: ‘Oh Jesus Christ that wall of hair! It’s horrendous! Howling #ChangingRooms.’
A third wrote: ‘Nearly 45 mins into the new #ChangingRooms on Channel 4 and so far all I’ve done is say “No”… Hair screen, No, stop it, behave.’
Ahead of her make-over, Claire revealed what her goal was for the living room which she admitted had gone 15 years without a revamp.
‘Everything then was very beige, it was just beige everywhere. So for the wallpaper I’ve asked to make it look not so beige, we need to get rid of the beige!’ she said.

‘I’d like something a bit ostentatious, I love leopard print, snake print, all animal print, something out there, something wild – I love it.’
Lisa and her daughter Kirsty were thrilled to be paired with presenter Laurence to turn her beige living room into an ‘Indian pleasure palace’.
While Claire and Jo were delighted to be matched with Jordan and Russell who aimed to transform her drab bedroom into a ‘drag queen shantay’.
Presenter and interior designer Laurence, 57, revealed his choice of paint colours to Lisa and Kirsty, but their reactions were far more muted than the bright colours on offer.
‘Before I open it, how much do you trust me?’ Laurence asked, to which Lisa replied: ‘I trust you 100 per cent.’

As the interior designer removed the lid of the ‘flamingo pink’ paint, he said: ‘That’s good, because guess what?’
But rather than the enthusiastic response he was hoping for, he was met with disappointed sighs from the shocked women who mustered up no other words than: ‘Oh…pink.’
He then revealed a ‘peacock’ shade of blue and a bold turquoise shade, to which a relieved Lisa replied: ‘Oh that’s lovely.’
Pointing to both colours except the pink, Kirsty added: ‘I really do like them two…’
But slowly coming around to the idea, a reluctant Lisa chimed in: ‘No, I think the three go lovely together.’

During Claire and Jo’s make-over, Russell and Jordan attempted to hang a chain made of the clay in Lisa’s bedroom. But in true Changing Rooms style, before he’d finished his sentence, the chain came crashing down
Describing his vision, Laurence explained: ‘There’s this big thing happening in design at the moment called maximalism, so it’s anti-minimalism and it’s about being really crazy and party orientated, quite feminine… and I just thought, that’s got Claire written all over it.
Meanwhile, during Claire and Jo’s make-over, Russell and Jordan attempted to hang a chain made of the clay in Lisa’s bedroom.
But in true Changing Rooms style, before he’d finished his sentence, the chain came crashing down.
Trying to justify the disaster, he added: ‘I think the big ones, they’re just a little bit thicker so they didn’t dry as much as the thin ones. Ever the optimist!’
But despite the challenges both teams faced, both make-overs were completed on time, leaving both sets of women stunned at their transformations.

‘Oh my god, it’s amazing!’ enthused a delighted Lisa. ‘It’s absolutely lovely. Thank you so much, I love it, it’s me. They’ve worked so hard.’

‘It’s a cross between under the sea and a peacock, I’m absolutely gobsmacked, I don’t think you’d ever think you could see me without words, I never thought I’d like pink but I absolutely love it.’
But viewers were quick to notice one key element of the make-over – a giant picture of Laurence covering the back of the door, with one writing: ‘That picture of Lawrence on the back of the door!!!’
Another joked: ‘Hello Dunelm? Me again. Do you have one quarter of a big photo fit of Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen I can stick on the back of my living room door? No? Ah, missed the boat again haven’t I? Serves me right for not ordering it straight away.’
A third wrote: ‘A wall of hair, a swing in the living room and a huge poster of Lawrence L-B on a door?? What the hell have I turned over to?? #changingrooms.’
Changing Rooms continues next week on Wednesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
