Chloe Kelly has opened up about meeting the Prince of Wales, admitting that she couldn’t actually hear what he had said to her during an emotional medal ceremony at the Euro 2022 final this August.
The footballer, 24, appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show, where she said she relied on a lip-reader who claimed William called her ‘so powerful’.
Speaking on the programme, she also told the host that it was ‘amazing’ to be congratulated by such big names.
The sporting legend was part of the incredible England team which beat Germany 2-1 to win the tournament in what was a landmark day for women’s football in this country during the summer.

‘I could see his lips moving, I don’t know what he said,’ she added. ‘I read on Twitter someone did a lip reading of it, he said, “You are so powerful.” So I hope that’s what he said.’
Striker Chloe had scored the winning goal, but told Jonathan, 61, that it was her ‘worst’ ever.
She got candid about the experience on this week’s episode, while joined by Lewis Capaldi, astronaut Tim Peake, comedian Romesh Ranganathan and actress and writer Daisy May Cooper.

The sporting star said: ‘I think I watch it every day to be fair. Every time I watch it everything I see changes.
‘The noise of the crowd – for me in that moment it was silent – the roar of the crowd gives me goosebumps.’
Speaking of her goal, she added: ‘It was a toe punt, probably the worst goal I’ve scored in my career.
‘I tried to hold off the defender, I felt like I was falling backwards. I just stretched out a toe and got anything on it.’

The footballer also revealed that she didn’t plan on taking her shirt off to celebrate, but that it happened ‘in the moment’.
Chloe, who was out for injury for 11 months before winning her goal, has described the victorious moment as ‘amazing’ and ‘surreal’
She added that while the goal ahead of the tournament was to ‘inspire young girls’, it was special to have walked away with an impact on the whole country.
She said: ‘Looking at how we can impact PE in schools and access football in schools is huge. We’re trying to equal the opportunity for young women and girls to have the opportunity to play.’
