Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have been the center of a lot of controversy ever since they decided to leave their positions as working royals. They have received a lot of backlash since stepping down. Some people even saw it as Prince Harry abandoning his duties as a royal and a citizen of the UK. But now, Harry is setting the record straight and letting everyone know that he is proud to be British, especially during such a trying time as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Prince Harry is proud to be British
Though Prince Harry is not currently in the United Kingdom during the pandemic, he is still proud of how his fellow Britts have handled the outbreak.
He recently spoke about Team Rubicon UK, which helps veterans get trained for humanitarian work and has been working especially hard during the pandemic.
“I’m honored to be a veteran and honored to be part of that community,” Harry said on the podcast Declassified. “I’m just so incredibly proud to see what these individuals up and down the country and across the world are doing on a day-to-day basis. What has happened, especially in the U.K., is the very best of human spirit.”
Though the pandemic has been taxing on those around the world, Harry has been especially satisfied with the U.K.’s response.
“It’s also proving that I think things are better than we’re led to believe through certain corners of the media,” he continued. “It can be very worrying when you’re sitting there and the only sort of information you are getting is from certain news channels, but then if you are out and about, or you’re on the right platforms, you can really sense this human spirit coming to the forefront.”
People in the UK have also been doing their part to help raise funds for the National Health Service Workers in the UK.
“I want to say a huge thank you, as we all do, to the NHS workers and everybody that’s volunteering,” he continued. “Because up and down the U.K., there are literally hundreds of thousands of people volunteering. … It’s such a wonderfully British thing that we all come to help when we need it.”
” … It just makes me incredibly proud to see the Brits stepping up like this, but I really, really hope that this keeps going after coronavirus and after this whole pandemic has come to a close.”
What are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle doing to help?
Harry and Meghan are currently LA, where they have been living since moving from Canada. Though they are practicing social distancing as is recommended by health experts, they are doing what they can to help those in need.
Recently, the pair volunteered with Project Angel Food, an organization that serves people with serious illnesses. They volunteered with the group after hearing that the drivers for the organization were overloaded, according to Entertainment Tonight.
“I am blown away that they chose us. They care about our vulnerable population,” Richard Ayoub, the organization’s executive director, told the outlet. “Our clients are most at risk to contract the coronavirus, having compromised immune systems including heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, and most are over the age of 60.”
