Awkwafina, Cynthia Erivo, Joaquin Phoenix, Renee Zellweger and the “Barb and Star Go to Vista del Mar” duo of Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo will serve as presenters for the 78th Golden Globes awards, Variety has learned.
Many of those actors have a history of recognition from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Last year, Phoenix won best actor in a motion picture drama for “Joker,” and Zellweger took home the award for best actress in a motion picture drama for her performance in “Judy.” Awkwafina also won a Golden Globe last year for best actress in a motion picture musical/comedy for her role in “The Farewell.” Erivo was nominated last year for best actress in a motion picture drama for “Harriet,” and Wiig previously earned a nod for best actress in a motion picture musical/comedy for 2011’s “Bridesmaids.”
As reported last week, Golden Globes producers are asking presenters to appear in person at either the Rainbow Room in New York City or the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, where Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, respectively, will be separately hosting the show. Strict COVID-19 protocols will be followed in order to ensure safety, and nominees will appear remotely.
The nominations for the 78th Golden Globes were announced on Feb. 3, and made history with their inclusion of three female directors in the best director category. The top contenders in the motion picture drama category include “The Father,” “Mank,” “Nomadland,” “Promising Young Woman” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.” In the musical or comedy category, “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” “Hamilton,” “Palm Springs,” “Music” and “The Prom” were nominated.
This year’s Golden Globes ceremony will air live on Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. PT/ 8 p.m. ET.
