The Environment Agency has issued 17 flood alerts for England urgently warning people to be prepared for flooding.
Forecasters expect downpours across the country today, with flood alerts affecting swathes of south-west, south-east, east, north-east, north-west and north England.
The worst of the weather will take place in Scotland as rain hits nearly every part of the country.
Heavy showers are also expected in Wales and north-west England, followed by further rainfall overnight in central, east, south-east, and south-west England.
Tomorrow morning, rainfall will pelt south-east England – and the afternoon could bring thunderstorms to the north of the country.
Gale force winds are expected in some parts of the country on Wednesday, with gusts of up to 43 miles-per-hour in areas of Scotland.
A spokesman for netweather.tv said: "Not a bad (Tuesday) morning although there will be some patchy rain still for western Scotland.
"There will be damp weather for Wales and north-west England into the Pennines by the afternoon as a warm front moves up through Scotland.
"Away from the rain, Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England will feel a bit warmer with temperatures in the high teens thanks to the warm sector.
"South-east and southern England will again see high teens and low 20s with sunny spells."

- Coast from Heacham to north of King`s Lynn in Norfolk
- Humber estuary from Spurn Point to Winestead Outfall
- Hunstanton coast in Norfolk
- Mersey Estuary at Warrington
- North Devon Coast from Hartland Point to Lynmouth
- Severn Estuary at Oldbury-on-Severn, Northwick and Avonmouth
- Somerset coast at Clevedon
- Somerset coast at Minehead, Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea and Uphill to Kingston Seymour
- Somerset coast at Porlock Weir
- Somerset coast at Portishead and Portbury Dock
- Tidal River Avon at Bristol, Pill and Shirehampton
- Tidal Thames riverside from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir
- Wye Estuary in Gloucestershire
- Wyre estuary from Fleetwood and Knott End to Little Eccleston
Thursday is set to be cloudy for most with rain in western Scotland, although it should be bright at times in southern England.
Friday will start cloudy with outbreaks of rain for most and become bright later on, with scattered showers in the north.
Temperatures throughout the week will be Autumn-like and are unlikely to rise above the high teens.
