Holby City confirms return for Serena and Bernie and reveals first look

Exciting news from Holby City HQ as they confirmed that fan favourites Serena Campbell (Catherine Russell) and Bernie Wolfe (Jemma Redgrave) will be returning to the show in tomorrow’s episode, which airs on BBC1 at 7.50pm.

In a clip posted to the BBC Holby City twitter feed, they say Your #MondayMotivation – this should take you all the way through till tomorrow evening! #Berena #HolbyCity HR.

The clip shows Donna (Jaye Jacobs) and Dominic (David Ames) discussing keeping an eye on Serena’s nephew Jason (Jules Robertson), who is in the hospital following an accident. ‘Perhaps we can help with that?’ says Serena, as she and Bernie walk into the ward.

There’s a further surprise when Jason asks, ‘How was your wedding?’ Does this mean the two are now married? Well, not quite, as Serena reveals. ‘The venue had to change the date, so it hasn’t happened yet.’ Could this venue have been the castle that Jason referred to previously? That would certainly be a beautifully romantic setting for a wedding.

Sacha (Bob Barrett), like the rest of us, wants details. ‘Who proposed? Where did it happen? Please tell me you got down on one knee?’

He and the viewers will have to wait until the episode airs to find out the answers to these questions, but fans are already getting excited to find out.

Maybe we’ll see a Holby wedding for Serena and Bernie before the series ends? Apart from a castle, there’s no more romantic spot than the Holby garden, which has seen several wedding ceremonies over the years.

And nobody deserves happiness more than Bernie and Serena, who have been through more than their fair share of trauma over the years – including Bernie being missing presumed dead for several months and then returning only to be almost blown up by her son Cameron (Nic Jackman). The return to Holby is bound to be emotional for her as she comes back to the place where her son killed so many people before ending his own life.

Maybe she’ll have renewed strength to jojn in the current fight against Holby being merged with St James’s?

We don’t know how long she and Bernie are staying at Holby this time, but they’re certainly a welcome sight.
