Holby City stars reveal how they reacted to cancellation news 'It's like grief'

Holby City fans spent months campaigning to try and save the show after news broke last year the final ever episode will air this month.

Suffice to say the Holby City audience were devastated and still are, with many voicing their opinions over the BBC’s decision to axe the show every week.

Just hours before fans discovers Holby City’s fate, the cast and crew were told, meaning they spent the rest of 2021 filming episodes knowing they’d soon have to look for alternative jobs and of course, say goodbye to the place they’ve grown to absolutely adore.

Recently, Metro.co.uk spoke to Bob Barrett and Guy Henry aka Sacha Levy and Henrik Hanssen.

The stars had a lot to say about their time on the show, and one thing we had to know the answer to was how the cast and crew reacted to the cancellation news themselves.

‘It’s like grief’, Bob told us.

‘There are 7 stages of grief. Initially it was such a shock but as we’ve gone on, there has been a lot of gallows humour. We cry about it; we get upset about it and we also have a laugh. We’re savouring the last time we have together before it all finished really. We all get on, we’re very close, it’s been lovely that it’s been like that. I think it’ll hit us all in the new year.’

‘The difference is I don’t like them’, Guy added.

(He’s joking, of course)

‘I joke, they’re probably the loveliest bunch of people you would ever work with. It’s famously, for guest actors, it’s one of the most pleasant shows to be on.

You are nervous when you rock up and it’s a well-oiled machine. It’s striking, the balance, between a jolly atmosphere on set and trying to do good work.’

‘They’re so relaxed when they come in’, Bob echoes.

‘It’s a family. We all say it, but it is a family.’

Indeed it is.
