DEAR DEIDRE: I FEAR another man was the father of the baby my girlfriend lost through a miscarriage.
When she came home from hospital she was wearing a sweater belonging to some other guy, which apparently his mum had taken in for her.
The hospital was a 90-minute drive away. I offered countless times to visit her and take over clothes but she said she didn’t need any.
She’s 26 and I’m 27. I fed her cat before and after I went to work, as we don’t live together. Apart from that, she refused all my offers of help.
She’s now accusing me of not bothering to visit her and it seems this mother of a “friend” did everything for her instead.
I know she has cheated on me in the past. I forgave her then but I don’t think I can do so this time.
DEIDRE SAYS: If she has just had a miscarriage, now is not the time to make accusations.
If she still accuses you of neglecting her, repeat quietly that you did offer to visit. Tell her you are there to listen.
She can get help via the Miscarriage Association (miscarriageassociation.org.uk, 01924 200799).
