Joe Biden did not attend the Coronation of King Charles III today, sending his wife Jill Biden instead.
Jill Biden brought with her a granddaughter, daughter of Hunter Biden, Finnegan.
Many might be left wondering why the President of the United States didn’t see fit to travel to the UK for the Coronation of the new King, a once in a lifetime opportunity.
However, the President has explained his reasons for not attending. He told MSNBC this weekend: “I have this going on”.
The President said: “I told him I couldn’t be there because I have this going on.”
The president added: “He’s a good acquaintance and we’ve worked together on environmental issues.”
But, Biden skipping the Coronation actually follows a tradition spanning back hundreds of years.
A US president has never attended a coronation of a British monarch since independence in 1776.
The sitting president at the time Dwight Eisenhower did not attend the late Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953.
Former president Donald Trump has called the snub “disrespectful.”
He told GBNews: “Certainly, he should be here as our representative of our country. I was very surprised, I think it’s very disrespectful for him not to be here.”
Jill wore blue to attend the Coronation today, wearing a similar look to one worn by Melania Trump previously.
She was joined by Finnegan, in a yellow dress, and social media users spotted a hidden political message in their looks.
One, who goes by @TravelLyn_, wrote: “Looks like the Ukrainian flag!”
