Though she is a full-time member of the British Royal Family with a hectic year-round schedule — Duchess Kate Middleton always makes time for what’s most important — her children. Though the duchess and her husband, Prince William, live their lives under a microscope, they are determined to give their three children normal childhoods.
The public has seen glimpses of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis throughout the years. Yet, most of the info that we receive about them comes directly from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. While we might not get a daily update on the kiddos, the Cambridges are always eager to share snippets of what’s happening in their children’s lives.
In fact, Kate Middleton just revealed one of the extra special family traditions that she has with her kiddos on their birthdays.
The Cambridges love to cook as a family
Though the royals have perks like having a private chef at their disposal — the Cambridges actually love to cook together as a family. In fact, it’s one of the main ways they keep some semblance of normalcy in their household.
“They have a small household and can fend for themselves,” former Kensington Palace chef Carolyn Robb revealed to Racked in 2015.”They’ll probably want to do that for as long as they can — have a normal family life — because that will really change when you have butlers and nannies and cooks around. The house is no longer your own. I’m sure they want to just be leading a normal family life.”
Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis adore homemade pizza
One of the best things about cooking with children is that you can get messy, which is why the tiny princes and princess are so helpful in the kitchen. During her appearance with renowned chef, Mary Berry, on BBC’s A Berry Royal Christmas — Middleton revealed one of her family’s favorite things to make.
“Actually one of the last things we cooked together was your pizza dough,” the duchess explained to Berry. “We made pizzas with your pizza dough recipe … They absolutely loved it.”
The little royals have also been known to make cheesy pasta. Clearly the tiny Cambridges have great taste in food. We already know that Princess Charlotte loves olives and Prince George adores all Italian cuisine.
Kate Middleton’s birthday tradition for her kids involves baking
It appears that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis got their love for cooking directly from their mom. Middleton told Berry that each year for the little royals’ birthdays she bakes them a handmade cake.
“I love making the cake,” she said. “It’s become a bit of a tradition that I sort of stay up until midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing. I make far too much, but I love it.”
Though we don’t know what flavors of cake the little royals adore the most, we’d assume that chocolate is high up on the list as well as copious amounts of sprinkles. After all, who doesn’t enjoy sprinkles?
